Copy Handwritten Notes as Text
In the Notes app on iPad, you can select Apple Pencil handwriting and copy it as editable typed text — no retyping required.
How to use it
- Open a note that contains handwriting created with Apple Pencil
- Tap and hold on the handwritten text, then drag the selection handles to select what you want
- In the popup menu, tap Copy as Text
- Paste the converted text into any app — Messages, Mail, Pages, or anywhere else
Good to know
- This works with handwriting in any language that iPadOS recognizes for on-device handwriting recognition.
- The conversion happens entirely on-device, so it works without an internet connection.
- You can also use the Scribble feature to write with Apple Pencil in any text field and have it automatically converted to typed text.
